Our Programs
As a grower, packer, shipper, Baloian Farms is able to control the quality of the product and the processes used in production from the selection and preparation of the ground until shipment of the packed produce. This allows for a detailed and comprehensive approach to risk reduction and food safety best practices covering all aspects of the operation including growing, water quality, harvest and equipment, packing operations, cleaning and maintenance programs, employee conduct and best practices, materials, facilities, and loading operations. Our objective is to monitor and mitigate risks from before planting until the product has been shipped to our customers.

The programs in place are living programs that are adapted to reflect changes in requirements, customer needs, increasing knowledge of risks and best practices, and most importantly, changes in the way we most efficiently bring quality product to market. We are currently using a GAP based program with 3rd party audits conducted by Primus Labs, NSF Davis Fresh, and the LGMA.

The audits are conducted for ranches, harvest crews, and our production, storage and shipping facilities on a yearly basis allowing for a continual learning curve and continual improvement.

Our Technology

Ozone Treatment

Food Safety-Baloian FarmsBaloian Farms uses ozone technology in rinse applications and for cold storage fumigation throughout the season.

Aqueous ozone rinse technology provides and chemical and residue free sanitizing rinse for product on the packing lines. This technology has been shown to reduce spoilage in addition to providing an effective sanitizing rinse.


Gaseous ozone is used within the cold storage facility throughout the season to ensure cleanliness of the facility. Testing of the drains, floors and walls has shown a significant reduction in the mold and yeast levels present when treatment is used compared with the regular cleaning program. Gaseous ozone provides an ideal fumigation for cold storage which is chemical and residue free.


Ethylene Gas Control
Ethylene ControlBaloian Farms uses ethylene scrubbers in the cold storage facility to eliminate ethylene in the air. Ethylene is a ripening agent and reduction of the ethylene in the storage environment increases product shelf life and slows ripening after harvest. The ethylene scrubbers are also effective in capturing blue mold spores.
Sanitary Wash and Precooling

Food Safety-Baloian FarmsBaloian Farms uses an automated chlorination system for any products requiring hydro cooling. The system regulates the chlorine level in the cooling water ensuring the sanitation potential remains constant within the rinse system.

Because our food safety starts with ground preparation and continues unbroken until the packaged produce is shipped from our facilities, the success of our program has relied upon integrating food safety into the culture of our organization. Every employee in the organization is trained and plays a critical role in monitoring and implementing our food safety program.
